About Kuala Sepetang

Kuala Sepetang, formerly known as "Port Weld", is located in the coastal area near Taiping, Perak. In the British colonial era, this traditional Chinese fishing village was an important port and bridge to the outside world.

During the British colonial era, Taiping was also rich in tin ore and there was the first railway in Malaysia to transport the tin ore to Port Weld. Of course, the train station is no longer exist but leaving only the stone tablet of this train station as one of the key landmark in Kuala Sepetang.

There is a cross-harbour fishing village in Kuala Sepetang. There are wooden houses on stilts along both sides of the river. Some are shops, but most of them are fishermen's homes. There are many wooden fishing boats moored on both sides of the small river. "Guo-gang" Fishing Village exudes a strong fishing village customs, and almost every lane and road has residents on both sides of the house. Temple tours nd local delicacies have attracted many tourists. It is a good place for any family to escape from the busy life in the city. In 2013, the pedestrian bridge from the town to the fishing village across the harbor was officially opened. Before that, the residents were crossing the river by sampan for many years and this tradition had also formed part of the local characteristic in the village.

Kuala Sepetang also retains the largest area of ​​mangroves in the Malay Peninsula. The mangroves here breed 28 true mangrove plants, 19 mammals, 155 bird species, 112 fish species, 50 crab species, 3 firefly species and 20 shrimp species. It is an extremely important natural ecological reserve. In addition, the mangroves in Kuala Sepetang also provide a stable source of raw materials for the local charcoal industry.
