Malaysia's first children's shadow puppet community picture book! This is a picture book of shadow puppetry in my hometown from the perspective of a child. 19 students from Kuala Sangga Peizhihua Primary School performed for "Returning to Hong Kong for the Mid-Autumn Festival". For three consecutive years in the "Listening, Speaking and Writing" camp, the students wrote stories about their hometown and made cutout paper puppets by themselves. The content of the three short stories is simple but warm. Look Port Weld and Sepetang Youth Club decided to compile the students' works into a book, recording the children's yearning and innocence for their hometown.
In 2016, Principal Zhou Zhenbin, who has been teaching at Kuala Sangga Peizhi Primary School for 12 years, hoped to organise an event called "Return to Hong Kong for the Mid-Autumn Festival" for all the school alumni so that everyone could return home and reunite. However, it is very difficult to hold a luxurious and beautiful stage performance in a fishing village that only relies on boats for access and has no water or electricity. If you are poor, you will change, and if you change, you will gain access. Look Port Well Community has changed the mode of the Mid-Autumn Festival Gala, and the children will personally interpret "Kuala Sangga is My Home" written by them in the "Happy Story Camp". We asked the children to make paper puppets based on the three essays in the story camp and present them in the form of shadow puppetry.
Although we can't predict what kind of effect it will have, the understanding and relationship we have established with children, teachers, volunteers and villagers over the years have prompted everyone to devote themselves to organizing this event. On September 17, "Return to Hong Kong for the Mid-Autumn Festival" was officially staged. A white cloth was hung high in the middle of the stage, with red cloth on both sides and lanterns covered with homemade dishes. The simple and plain stage had the most sincere performances. The "Kuala Sangga is My Home" shadow puppet show presented by 19 students from Peizhi Primary School was divided into three stories: small bridge, boat and school. The lively performances of the students won applause from the audience; and their chorus songs also made the audience deeply touched.
