"Old Port is My Home" Parent-child storytelling session + shadow play experience
Since the publication of "Old Port is My Home" in 2019, we have conducted more than 20 storytelling sessions in Southern Malaysia, Northern Malaysia, Klang Valley and the East Coast.
Kuala Sangga is about a 30-minute boat ride from Kuala Sepetang. It is an island surrounded by mangroves and the sea. It is a small fishing village without electricity and water.
There are only about ten families left. There is a coffee shop, a Chinese primary school, a Catholic church, a temple, etc. on the island. The villagers make a living by catching cockles, shrimps and fishing. It can be said that they depend on the sky for food and the sea for their livelihood.
"Old Port is My Home" is a shadow puppet show presented by all 19 students of Puizhi Primary School when they returned for the Mid-Autumn Festival in September 2016. They wrote three stories about their home: small bridge, fishing boat and school, and made it by themselves paper puppets. In order to record the children's creations, See Sepetang decided to compile the students' stories and works into a community picture book, and continue to pass on this feeling.
