2018 ["Look! Port Weld" with Stories - My Home, My Community] Holiday Day Camp
Since the children participated in the eco-camp for three consecutive years, the content of the holiday camp in the fourth year was changed.【"Look! Port Weld" with stories - my home, my community】Holiday Camp
This year's course focused on "knowing the map and observing the community." Nearly 32 children signed up to participate, and half of the campers have participated in the ecological camp.
In the first section, we used the "My Map Book" to guide the children to freely draw "my own map". Everyone had their own creativity and unique style to design and there were a few creative outputs, e.g. My Room Map, My Neighborhood Map, My Map, My Traffic Map, My Self Map, and My Life Map. These children were given the freehand without constraints and limits as they developed their own ideas.
In the second section, the campers were divided into four groups and walked around their homes, starting from the main street of Kuala Sepetang. They were guided to observe how many shops built on the street, their names, what kind of shops and their contributions to the community, and they were also asked to pay attention to the cleanliness on the street. After the walking tour, the participants shared their findings based on their observations gathered onto a big map. The biggest gain of this course was not the works, but the learning and attentions given by the children during the two-hour participation process, learning from their different perspectives and ideas.
